Pancake is a cat who underwent tumor removal surgery at our hospital.
Due to the need for surgery and Pancake's advanced age of 10 years, along with the presence of a large tumor in the stomach requiring the removal of one-third of the stomach, the surgical procedure carried a very high risk.
Diagnostics:
Initially, Pancake exhibited symptoms of vomiting with blood and loss of appetite. Despite medication, there was no improvement. As a result, the veterinary team immediately performed a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound scan and X-ray examination, revealing the presence of a non-metastasized large tumor in Pancake's stomach.
Surgical Procedure and Treatment:
Given the severity of Pancake's condition, it was necessary to proceed with the surgery as soon as possible. Our team of doctors successfully removed one-third of the stomach and the tumor. The surgical procedure was meticulous, ensuring the thorough removal of the affected tissues while preserving enough stomach tissue and blood vessels. Ultimately, the surgery was successful and completed smoothly.
Ultrasound and X-ray examinations played a crucial role in accurately diagnosing Pancake's condition:
Ultrasound helped determine the extent of the gastric tumor and whether it had spread to the intestines or other organs.
X-ray examination ensured that cancer cells had not spread to the lungs.
Postoperative Care and Recovery:
After the surgery, Pancake had a feeding tube placement to administer medication, water, and food. The feeding tube ensured that Pancake received necessary nutrition without causing discomfort. (For the benefits of a feeding tube, please refer to our previous article.) In the end, Pancake did not experience any discomfort or adverse reactions after the surgery. Pancake has fully recovered and can now eat on its own. The feeding tube has been removed! We will continue to closely monitor Pancake's condition.
